I bought this book a little over a year ago. In that time I have not managed to get past chapter 3. Not because it's not good, but because I need to make sure I'm fully ready to embrace all the book has to offer. Because if you're not ready to make a change and use his techniques then just put the book down, seriously!!! I found this book transformational. I also found that reading and listening to the audio simultaneously helped me be present as I experienced Tolle's teachings. I found this book to be a layered building of understanding to help one awaken. Complementarily, I felt that the book Power of Now was a wonderful follow on book after reading this one (eventhough it was published before A New Earth). I have read a ton of books and no book had as practical effect on my life as this one; it literally changed my life.
You may want to skip the first chapter and read it last; it is a bit hard to get but starting with chapter 2, the book becomes a great read.
You will see so much of yourself and the people you know in this book when you read about people's egos and "pain bodies" left over from previous experiences.
